Santa Paula Rotary Club President Judy Phelps started out her year of leadership right with a Paul Harris Fellowship Award denoting a $1,000 donation to the Rotary Foundation.

Past President Chris Wilson presented Phelps with the honor following his demotion, noting that such funds “have a worldwide impact…”

The award is named for Paul Harris, a Chicago attorney who in 1905 joined with three clients to form a club “in fellowship and friendship,” as well as to fulfill an early goal of Rotary, to help humanity.

The award founded in Harris’ honor is the Rotary Foundation’s special expression of appreciation to those who not only help others but also show a strong commitment to humanitarian causes for those in need, whether around the world or around the corner.

Such ideals come closer to reality each time a Paul Harris Fellowship Award recipient is honored through programs that provide improved living conditions, increased food production, better education, wider availability of treatment and rehabilitation for the sick and disabled, new channels for the flow of international understanding and brighter hopes for peace throughout the world.

“We have a lot of fun in Rotary,” said Wilson, “but we also do a lot of good…and donations such as Judy’s to the foundation,” benefits projects throughout the world.

As part of the recognition of a Paul Harris Fellowship Award Phelps received the special medallion, pin and certificate.
