Tiva Gilbertson

July 22, 1922-July 8, 2011

Yetiva (Tiva) Gilbertson passed away on Friday July 8, 2011 after a brief illness. She was born in Ratcliff, Arkansas on July 22, 1922 and moved with her family to Santa Paula as a child. Tiva made her home in Santa Paula and spent many years volunteering for various organizations throughout Ventura County and was always very actively involved in her community. She retired to Ventura in 1999 and remained actively involved in the community.

She is survived by her stepdaughters Pat Alderson and Jean Eggenschwiler; her grandchildren Greg Landolt, Paige Martinez, Piper Dallons, Craig Alderson, Susannah Harte and Jonathan Eggenschwiler; and her great-grandchildren Nate and Bryelle Dallons, Noah, Kylene and Kirah Samson, Ethan and Daniel Harte, and Johnathon (Eian) Yarbrough. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Gilbertson, her daughter Valerie Sare, and her grandsons Michael and Jack Alderson.  

Tiva was a proud wife, mother, grandmother, and loyal friend. Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 22 at 11 a.m., Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery, 380 Cemetery Rd., Santa Paula, CA 93060.

Andy Boren Harpster

July 27, 1941-July 17, 2011

Andy Boren Harpster died peacefully while sleeping on July 17, 2011 after a long journey with early onset Alzheimer’s disease. He was 69 years old.

He was born in Santa Paula to Verne and Milford Harpster and graduated from Santa Paula High School in the class of 1959. He earned his Associates degree from Ventura College and was a 35-year employee of Southern California Edison Company, with his final position being property manager in the Real Properties Division.

Andy enjoyed traveling with his wife and taking vacations with his family, especially annual trips to Rincon beach with his children and grandchildren. He went on many caravans with his local Edison “Stuffknowers” RV group, and taking special group father-son fishing trips to Montana. He and his sisters enjoyed annual Columbus Day trips to Las Vegas. 

Andy is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judy; and his children Steve Harpster of Pleasanton and Lindsay Harpster Martinez (husband Troy) of Santa Paula; and his five grandchildren, Andrew Harpster, Dennis Harpster, Caroline Harpster, Hannah Martinez, and Zachry Martinez; sisters Barbara Harvey and Tana (husband Don) Peck of Santa Paula; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and loving friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Verne and Milford Harpster. 

The family would like to thank the excellent staff of the Palms Memory Care for their loving and tender care that will always be remembered and appreciated. 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, located at 121 Davis St. in Santa Paula. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary.
