All women of Santa Paula are invited to the Sorpotimist of Santa Paula’s Wednesday, January 24th luncheon at Logsdon’s Restaurant to hear Sandy Schultz talk about her study tour for “Project Independence” in Rwanda. The cost is $15 per person and includes lunch. “Project Independence and “Women for Women” International has raised millions of dollars to help over 70,000 women in warring nations learn to support themselves and reinvigorate their economies by providing the tools and resources needed to move from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency. If interested in attending please RSVP to Donna Stewart @ 933-0011Schultz was in Kigali, Rwanda for a week and will share stories from her own experiences and the women of Rwanda. She will give a 30 minute powerpoint presentation on her study tour for Project Independence - Women Survivors of War.Mother Teresa once said, “The most terrible poverty is loneliness and the feeling of being unloved.”Schultz says, “I understand the true meaning of this statement now more that ever after visiting the women of Rwanda in the Project Independence program last February 06’. Every woman who gave her testimony talked about her isolation and how alone and timid she felt before enrolling in Project Independence - Women Helping Women program. Being a part of this program changed their lives and lives of their families. The theme the whole week was that Soroptimist members are making a difference in the lives of these women. The look in their eyes and hugs of love when introduced was dramatic evidence that not only is the monetary support vital, but the emotional connection is even a more important component! Knowing that another woman in another part of the world cares is very empowering to their self worth.”
Sandy was in Kigali, Rwanda for a week and will share stories from her own experiences and the women of Rwanda.
