Santa Paula News
The first official Santa Paula Business Economic Forecast will be presented on Thursday, September 25 at noon at the Community Center. The event is sponsored by the Santa Paula Chamber of Commerce. Wells Fargo Bank has underwritten the $3,500 cost of this report, which was prepared by Dr. Bill Watkins, Director of the Economic Forecast Project at the University of California at Santa Barbara. Dr. Watkins will be the guest speaker at the event.“The forecast is a very critical element in our work to promote economic development. The timing is perfect since we are working with the consultants who are coordinating the efforts to update the Downtown Improvement Plan,” said Anna Maria Manzano, Chamber president. The forecast will also jumpstart the efforts of the council appointment Economic Advisory Committee, chaired by former VCEDA president and Bill Simmons. “This type of economic analysis is vital to any economic plan. The Advisory Committee has prepared a Kick Start Program for economic development and this report should align the efforts of the working groups throughout the City.”According to Kay Wilson-Bolton, former Chamber president and coordinator of this event, “This report is almost a dream come true and the timing coincides with the exciting activities underway, including the local visioning process and the dialogue being generated by City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz among property owners, developers and business owners.”“We are poised for making great things happen. Most Santa Paulans would agree that it is our turn. Dr. Watkins has prepared similar reports for many cities and it is information that provides the basis for good economic strategies.”
“The Chamber is very proud to be the lead group on this project. Our goal is to promote business within Santa Paula and all we need are tools and energy. We can’t thank Dr. Wakins at UCSB and Wells Fargo enough for their commitment to economic vitality in Santa Paula. The event is being held at the Community Center at 11:30 on Thursday, September 25, 2003. Tickets are $25 and that includes a copy of the Economic Forecast. Immediately following the lunch which is being catered by the Garden Market, there will be a business showcase where local businesses will be have booths set up to talk to event attendees. For ticket information, call Kay Wilson-Bolton at 525.7118, ext 208, or Jeanette Maland and 208.9778.
