By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesThe legacy of George Pagan will be repairs at the California Oil Museum that will allow visitors to see and hear all about the oil industry, the City Council learned when they were updated on just how donations in Pagan’s memory will be used. The council received the report at the Sept. 16th meeting.Pagan, who passed away in March, was the COM Assistant Administrator and had had a long career in the oil industry, including a long-stint working upstairs in the business office area when the building still housed offices of Union Oil, now known as Unocal. When he passed away, his wife, Kathryn Pagan, and Museum Docent Coordinator Mary Alice Henderson, requested the donations in his memory be made to the oil museum, where Pagan was regarded as the chief fixit man. Pagan also served as volunteer docent at the oil museum and was considered one of the most knowledgeable when it came to the oil industry.
The staff report by Brian Yanez, community services director, noted that the account in Pagan’s memory now is at $3,260, “given by the friends and family of George Pagan.” And, per the arrangement, the funds will be used for repairs in the museum’s Rig Room as well as for other repair needs.Pagan had a real fondness for the antique rig now showcased in the Rig Room and spent much time working on the equipment.“With the total donations given, repairs and upgrades can be made on two or more components of the museum’s audiovisual system, including the Rig Room,” where the equipment has been inoperable, said Yanez. “When the Rig Room work is completed, a plaque will be placed in the room in George’s memory.”Donations in Pagan’s memory are still being accepted.
