Subsequently, it has returned to Santa Paula and is open to the public.“Science on the Move” was to have opened July 7th and features 10 interactive science stations that involve visitors in hands-on learning experiences in physics, chemistry, electricity, and physiology.Visitors to the exhibit take part by testing their reaction time in response to different cues, measuring your personal amperage as a “Human Battery,” see which arm bones are used to open a door. The exhibit is designed to interest children and young adults in the sciences by showing them the science behind everyday events and activities.Funded by Shell Oil Canada, the traveling exhibit’s last stop had been at the Manitoba Museum of Man & Nature.“Science on the Move” somehow managed to move right past U.S. Customs after shipped from Canada without an inspection.
Although the exhibit was delivered to the California Oil Museum on June 27th so it could be unpacked and put together in time for the July 7th opening, the shipping company realized it had neglected to clear the cargo with U.S. Customs. So the shipping company came back to Santa Paula and the California Oil Museum, picked up the exhibit, and took it to the Customs office in Long Beach. After the proper inspections, the exhibit did a turn-around, back to the museum.According to California Oil Museum Executive Director Mike Nelson, the exhibit “did open, it’s setup,” although a few items need to be repaired. “I’d say 80 percent of it is up and running and in place and ready to go.”“Science on the Move” is here to stay, at least through October 20th.For more information, call the California Oil Museum at 933-0076.
