Santa Paula woman arrested by special Oxnard Auto Theft Task Force

A 28-year-old Santa Paula woman was arrested early Tuesday by a special task force of Oxnard Police following their pursuit in a stolen SUV that was found to contain burglary tools.
The November 10 incident, according to an OPD spokesman, started about 3:10 a.m. when detectives were investing a report of a stolen vehicle along the 1300 block of East Channel Islands Boulevard.
The detectives saw a woman get into a 2008 GMC Yukon that had been reported stolen to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and drive off.
Officers tried to stop the vehicle but the driver refused to yield, leading officers on a pursuit reaching speeds of 65 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone.
The driver also ran a red light before she eventually abandoned the SUV in the 700 block of West Channel Islands Boulevard and took off on foot.
After a short foot pursuit OPD Officers were able to apprehend Edith Cooper, a resident of Santa Paula.
Cooper was booked into Ventura County jail on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of burglary tools and felony evading of a police officer.
The Oxnard Police Department launched the Oxnard Auto Theft Task Force (OATTF) in early 2015. Detectives assigned to this task force proactively locate and arrest those responsible for committing auto thefts in Oxnard. The objective of the OATTF is to reduce the number of stolen vehicles in Oxnard through education, intervention, and enforcement.
