Santa Paula Police were kept busy this weekend with numerous reports of shots fired in neighborhoods throughout the city, including one incident in a historic district that led to police recovering a firearm but not suspects.
According to neighbors in the 800 block of East Santa Paula Street, a loud party ended with gunshots late Friday evening.
“We heard shots then looked outside and there were men yelling and running eastbound on East Santa Paula Street,” said a neighborhood resident that asked to remain anonymous.
After the shots, “There was a lot of running back and forth all over the block,” said another neighbor who also asked their identify not be revealed. “It was frightening and infuriating at the same time... “
The incident resulted in numerous 911 calls to the SPPD, which sent patrol vehicles to the scene.
Those found in the area and asked by police about the incident were not cooperative.
“As usual, no one saw or heard anything,” said SPPD Lt. Ishmael Cordero. “A gun was recovered but there were no arrests... and no one was hit.”
The latest incident is among others that have occurred in recent months in the historic East Santa Paula Street area that is prompting the formation of a Neighborhood Watch group.
