Ming Yuen Wang, Ph.D.
Ming Yuen Wang of Santa Paula, California, went to be with the Lord on February 19, 2012. Ming was born in China on April 19, 1926. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ann, son Sherman (Leah), son Harmon (Janette), daughter Luann (Robert), niece Julie (Ken), five grandchildren, and a sister and brother who reside in China with their families.
Ming graduated with a Ph.D. from Michigan State University. He was elected by the MSU faculty to Sigma Xi, an honor society for scientists. He attended post-graduate school at Yale University.
He moved to Santa Paula, where he joined Fruit Growers Laboratory in 1954 and became a member of the team that brought extraordinary growth to the laboratory in income, reputation, services, and facilities. He introduced cutting edge hi-tech instruments, which greatly increased productivity and lab capabilities. He shared his knowledge with many young scientists at the lab and students from universities (where some earned college credits while studying in the laboratory for three months), community colleges, and local schools. He was chairman of methodology for the California Association of Agricultural Laboratories (CAAL), serving laboratories in California and Nebraska, and was elected a member of the Board of Directors, serving one year as president. He retired from the laboratory director position in 1987.
He was involved in many community activities: PTA, Boy Scouts, county fairs, and science fairs. He served on several task forces: one for a county agency dealing with state water and one for the Elementary School District on “planning for the year 2000 and beyond”. He was elected to the Board of Trustees of Santa Paula High School, the library, and served one year as president. He and his wife were honored to be enrolled as members of the President’s Club of Michigan State University.
In 1967 he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, which began a new page of his life. He was active in the Presbyterian Church, serving in many different capacities and ministries.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 31st at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Paula, 121 Davis St., Santa Paula, CA 93060.

John “Uncle” Hernandez
It is with great sadness and very heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of our beloved “UNCLE,” John Hernandez (AKA Johnny Kimbro), on Monday, March 12, 2012 at the age of 86 years.
John was born, raised, and lived his entire life in the same house on South Mill Street in Santa Paula. His family was the pride and joy of his life. He helped to raise more than 50 nieces and nephews from the Banuelos, Basua, Cervantez, Galvan, Sevilla and Martinez families. The family gathered around Uncle when he went to our Lord.
John is preceded in death by his parents Feliciano and Modesta Prado Hernandez, sisters Concha Banuelos and Maria Lopez, and nephew Mike Banuelos. He is loved and survived by sister Rosie (Peter) Sanchez; nieces Esther Banuelos and Tina Basua; nephews Peter (Elaine) Cervantez, Arthur (Melissa) Banuelos, Steven Cervantez, Edward (Noreen) Martinez and children Alex and Renee, Mike Banuelos Martinez, and Joey Banuelos; nieces Denise (Johnny) Claudio and children Jonathan, Nichole and Gabriella, Lorraine (Cesar) Gonzalez, Bridget Salazar, Stephanie Gutierrez and his beloved Lorraine (John) Buckley. John is also loved and survived by Mike (Susan) Escoto family, Annie (Ed) Mendoza family, Angie (Jess) Solis family, Tommy (Eddie) Reyes family, Larry (Rosie) Navarro family, Albert (Janice) Sevilla family, Ruben (Deana) and Robert (Angie) Martinez families, the entire Sevilla family, and the Galvan family. He also loved and enjoyed spending time with his (adopted sons).
We will miss very much the daily phone calls our beloved Uncle made to all of us.
A rosary will be recited at 12:30 p.m. followed by Mass of Christian burial at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 16 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Santa Paula. Interment will follow at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery.
