The Lady Cardinal soccer team met up with a tough South Torrance team Friday, losing the CIF-SS Division 4 Quarterfinal match, 4-1.

Santa Paula played without Taylor Alvarado, their top scorer all season.  She was asked to play on the Mexican National Under 17 team and left for Mexico the day before the CIF game.  Santa Paula Coach Jesus “Chuy” Cordova said before the game that he was surprised at her departure but he and the girls are happy for her.

The Cardinal’s only goal came early in the game when Mariela Cisneros scored on an assist from Lupita Magana.  Santa Paula ended the season with a 14-5-4 record.  South Torrance was 8-0-2 for their league and 22-3-5 overall.

Cardinal Coach Cordova said his girls did their best.  He added that it was disappointing to lose but “I give a lot of credit to the other team.  They are one of the best in the larger schools.”
