JV boys win, varsity loses to Grace Brethren

The Santa Paula JV defeated Grace Brethren by a score of 61 to 33.

The Cardinals improved their season record to 12 - 3 and a league record 4 - 1. Santa Paula jumped out to a 20 to 6 lead after the first quarter and were never threatened  during their 28-point victory.  Highlights for the Cardinals were: Daniel Perez 20 points, 1 rebound, 6 steals; Nicholas Aguilera 13 points, 10 rebounds for a double -double in points and rebounds as well as 2 steals; Isaac Ramirez 10 points, 3 rebounds, 6 steals, 1 blocked shot; Oscar Cancino 8 points, 1 steal. 

The Cardinal varsity lost to Grace Brethren in an extremely close game, 62 to 60. 

The Lancers had a lead of six points or less throughout the entire second half of the contest. The Cardinals missed a shot at the buzzer to force overtime.  Santa Paula’s overall record fell to 8 - 11 and league record 1 - 4 in the Frontier League. Highlights for the Cardinals were Tim Garcia 14 points and 2 bombs from outside the three point arc, 3 rebounds; Gabriel Diaz 13 points and two bombs from outside the three points arc, 2 rebounds, 1 steal; Brandon Casas 11 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal, 1 blocked shot; Joshua Garey 7 points, 5 rebounds, 1 blocked shot; Alfredo Rafael 5 points, 4 rebounds; Eduardo Chavez 5 points, 1 steal.

Santa Paula had great hustle throughout the contest however, they appeared to be greatly undersized with the forwards and post players.

Santa Paula travels to Malibu tonight. The frosh play at 4:00 p.m.
