Santa Paula varsity coach Teojua Sanchez commented on last week’s 40-35 loss to Oak Park: “We played hard for four quarters unfortunately we were unable to finish the game. This is no excuse for the last touchdown we had a mental breakdown in the secondary. We overcame a 14-point deficit and we were a couple of plays away from winning our first league game. We had costly penalties late in the game and we had an unfavorable spot on a 4th and 1 call. We were battling from costly penalties, as we were penalized 5 times in one drive.

We were led defensively by LB Steven Kohr, who is having a remarkable senior year. Steven never comes off the field and had a 6-yard TD reception. Sophomore quarterback Christian Garcia had a break-through performance, as he continues to improve each and every game. Seniors Kameron Klien and Brennan Yzaguirre harassed Oak Park’s QB all night long. Sophomore wide receiver Daniel Kohr continues to show why he is the most electric sophomore in the county.

We have to prepare hard against a very good Carpinteria team this week.”
