Varsity coach comments on loss to Channel Islands

Coach Teohua Sanchez said last week’s 23-13 loss to Channel Islands was a tough loss to handle. “The bottom line is that we did not execute and they were able to execute,” he said. “We don’t deserve to win a game if we cannot get a one-yard. We were stopped on two fourth-down-and-one conversions, and we committed too many penalties.”Sanchez takes full responsibility for the miscues of the team. “We also had two touchdowns called back as a result of penalties,” he said. “As bad as we played we were only down by two points at halftime. We had two costly interceptions, one right before the end of halftime and the other one in the 4th quarter when we were driving into the end zone. We had several opportunities to stop them on defense, but we did not tackle very well. We will continue to get better and compete for the Frontier League Championship.” The Cards travel to Grant High tonight for another non-league game.Directions to Grant High: (2 choices)Take the 101 South to Exit 15 (Coldwater Canyon) and turn left on Coldwater Canyon Ave. About a mile and a half turn left at Oxnard Street.
