SPTC presents Pulitzer Prize-winning drama “Doubt”

Santa Paula Theater Center will present John Patrick Shanley’s Pulitzer Prize winning drama “Doubt” September 18 through October 25 at the Santa Paula Theater Center, 125 S 7th St. in Santa Paula.

Santa Paula Theater Center will present John Patrick Shanley’s Pulitzer Prize winning drama “Doubt” September 18 through October 25 at the Santa Paula Theater Center, 125 S 7th St. in Santa Paula. Performances are at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings, with a 2:30 p.m. curtain for Sunday matinees.What do you do when you are not sure? Set in a Bronx Catholic school in the 60s, a deeply principled nun suspects a Catholic priest of improper conduct. Her allegations could destroy lives.“Doubt” is one of the most exciting and popular plays in recent Broadway history. The New York Times calls it “An inspired study of moral uncertainty with the compellingly certain structure of an old-fashioned detective drama.” In addition to winning the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, “Doubt” also won the Tony Award for Best Drama. “Doubt” is under the direction of SPTC’s Artistic Director David Ralphe, with Leslie Nichols producing and Leticia Mattson stage-managing. Lighting design is by Gary Richardson, with scenic design by Will Shupe. Barbara Pedziwiatr will costume this production.
In the pivotal role of Sister Aloysius is SPTC veteran actress Linda Livingston, remembered for outstanding performances in such productions as “Honour”, “The Lion in Winter”, “The Price” and numerous others. Returning to Southern California after a brief sojourn in Chicago, SPTC is pleased to have Livingston back on our boards.Joining Livingston onstage in “Doubt” will be James Castle Stevens as Father Flynn, Alison Williams as Sister James, and Cheridah Best as Mrs. Mueller. Stevens was last seen on the SPTC stage in “The Philadelphia Story” as well as many productions at the High Street Arts Center. Williams, also seen in “The Philadelphia Story”, was most recently seen at SPTC in “Rebecca” playing the Mrs. DeWinter. Cheridah Best was last seen at the Elite in Oxnard in “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Don’t Change” and here makes her SPTC debut.Admission is $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and students, and $12 for children 12 and under.
