Fandango includes an after party at Los Arcos featuring Jerry Lugo and His Trio.First Sunday of the Month Open House at Santa Paula Airport will welcome visitors to the Chain of Hangars Museum from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aviation history comes alive at the museum, and other hangar owners are more than happy to share their wonderful vintage and classic aircraft through special displays.Hangar Number One tells the rich history of Santa Paula Airport - which opened in 1930 - through vintage film, newspaper clippings, photographs and memorabilia. The privately owned hangars that make up the museum offer fascinating collections, ranging from motorcycles to miniature racecars, antique radios to aviation memorabilia. A tram helps visitors save steps as they tour the Aviation Museum of Santa Paula’s hangars.While at First Sunday, don’t forget to visit CP Aviation, home of the Museum Gift Shop, where everything aviation-related - from clothing and collectibles to toys and airplane arts and crafts - is on sale. CP Aviation is located directly across from Logsdon’s at the Airport, where you can enjoy a meal overlooking the historic airport.Before you start that barbecue Monday, you won’t want to miss the 5th Annual Labor Day Parade, honoring all those who work, especially Grand Marshal Tomas Gonzalez. Sponsored by the Labor Day Parade Committee, the City of Santa Paula, Santa Paula Rotary Club and Calavo, the Labor Day Parade is the only one of its kind in Ventura County and one of scant few of such events held statewide.Unions, service clubs and organizations, equestrians, bands as well as individuals will take part in the parade, which starts at 10 a.m. when the procession will step out from 7th Street onto East Main Street. The Labor Day Parade has a route of its own: it turns left onto Mill Street to end at the Railroad Park Gazebo, where trophies will be awarded.

Festivities range from Cruise Nite and the Ready Santa Paula Preparedness and a Movie in the Park to the Fandango and the First Sunday Open House at Santa Paula Airport to the 5th Annual Labor Day Parade.And the good news is this week’s heat wave that saw temperatures in Santa Paula flirting with 100 degrees is supposed to cool considerably.Friday evening will offer a trio of good times - all within walking distance of each other - with Cruise Nite, the 3rd Annual Ready Santa Paula Preparedness Fair and a Movie in Veterans Park.Starting at about 5:30 p.m., Cruise Nite always fills East Main Street with pre-1975 vehicles and those who love them. Hundreds of hot rods, classics, racers, vintage and unusual vehicles are shown off by their proud owners at Cruise Nite, the largest such regular event in Ventura County.There are plenty of great places to eat in the historic downtown, and Cruise Nite is the perfect place to enjoy fine cars, live music and socializing with old friends - and making new ones! East Main is closed from 10th to 7th streets for Cruise Nite, again this year hosting the Ready Santa Paula Preparedness Fair.The Preparedness Fair, which focuses on being ready for emergency or disaster, is sponsored by Santa Paula Citizens Corps and will include public safety and services displays, exhibits, informational handouts and plenty of education on how easy it is to be prepared. Ready Santa Paula displays will be featured on East Main Street from 8th to 7th streets, at the Cal West Real Estate parking lot, and in Ebell Park.Loved by the kids and adults alike, “Madagascar II: Escape 2 Africa” will be screened at Veterans Memorial Park starting at 7:30 p.m. Bring your chairs and blankets to enjoy this animated modern classic that will delight kids and adults at Veterans Memorial Park (between East Main and Ventura streets). Sponsored by the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs and the City of Santa Paula, the free screening will include popcorn for a night of outdoor movie viewing on an inflatable big screen.You might want to rest up Saturday, as Sunday will bring the 4th Annual Fandango and the Santa Paula Airport First Sunday Open House.With music, art and a festival, the Fandango is a triple play of fun at the Railroad Park Gazebo. A joint partnership of the city’s Community Services Department and the famous De Colores Art Group, Fandango will be held from noon to 7 p.m. featuring singing, dancing, a Mercado with plenty of vendor booths, and fun activities for the children.
