The Aviation Museum of Santa Paula is pleased to present Commander Valerie Overstreet as guest speaker on Tuesday, May 5, at Logsdon’s Restaurant at the Santa Paula Airport. CDR. Overstreet has become a celebrity in Ventura County, primarily as the first woman Commander of the world famous Wallbangers of VAW-117 which is a 173- member squadron of pilots, flight and ground crews that are deployed aboard the USS Nimitz. The E-2C Hawkeyes provide Airborne Warning and Control service for the USS Nimitz’ strike group. They are the carrier’s eyes and ears and help keep flight crews in communication with ground forces. But CDR. Overstreet’s true celebrity comes from her warm, witty and truly delightful presentation of her assignments and experiences beginning as a “Navy brat” to her current post as Commanding Officer of the Wallbangers. With over 3800 flight hours, and 385 carrier arrested landings, she has a Master of Science degree in National Security and Strategic Studies, more awards and assignments that we could list here, including being deployed onboard USS Enterprise in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom(Sept 03-Feb 04). CDR Overstreet and her father, retired Capt. Gilman Rud, U.S.N., ret., hold a special Navy record as the only father/daughter team to have over 100 “traps” on the same carrier. You can look forward to hearing of her varied career experiences and her hilarious anecdotes of personal experiences in this male-dominated profession.
Please join us for this FREE, open-to-the-public presentation on Tuesday, May 5 at 6:30 in the banquet room of Logsdon’s Restaurant, 824 Santa Maria Street, Santa Paula.
