Robert Manning Giffin Bob Giffin died November 24 at his Ventura home in the arms of his loving children. He had a brief bout with aggressive lymphoma. He was 70.Bob was a dedicated and well-loved father. Friends and family treasured his quick mordant wit, breadth of knowledge, lively conversation, and lifelong distrust of authority.Bob grew up in the Goleta Valley, attended Goleta Union School, and graduated from Santa Barbara High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree from UCSB and a master’s from San Jose State University. Bob was a U.S. Army veteran (1954-1956).In 1961, Santa Paula Union High School hired Bob to teach special education. He also taught driver training. Bob retired in 1985 after 26 years of public school teaching.In 1953, Bob married Jessie (Betty) Elizabeth McNaughton of Santa Barbara. Bob and Betty had four children. They were legally separated in 1985.Bob is survived by his children: Richard of Paraiso Springs, Robert of Los Angeles, Alexander of Santa Barbara and Elizabeth of the Hollywood Hills. He is also survived by his brother, Donald, of College Park, Maryland, with whom he enjoyed traveling.A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 1st at 11 a.m. at the Sexton House in Goleta, 5490 Hollister Avenue. Friends and family are invited. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be given to Tender Loving Care Home Hospice, 448 Moorpark Ave., Moorpark, CA 93021.Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura.Keith Carlyle ClendeningKeith Carlyle Clendening, age 53, of Santa Paula, passed away in Oxnard November 26, 2000. He was born August 12, 1947 in Bloomington, Indiana, and had been a county resident for six years, coming from Rialto, California.Employed as a maintenance supervisor and electrician for Weyerhaeuser in Santa Paula, Keith thoroughly enjoyed and loved his family. He was lovingly referred to by his grandchildren as “Poppy.”
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Clendening of Santa Paula; sons, Keith (wife, Joy) Clendening II, Charles (wife, Amber) Clendening, and Greg (wife, Kristy) Clendening, all of Santa Paula; daughter Kellye Sanchez of Highland; seven grandchildren; and brothers, Gary Clendening and Bruce Clendening, both of Bloomington, Indiana.A memorial service was held November 30 at the Skillin-Carroll Mortuary in Santa Paula, the Rev. Merle Lehman officiating; with private family inurnment.Arrangements under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula.William Martin RybarczykWilliam Martin Rybarczyk, age 82, of Santa Paula, passed away on November 29, 2000 following a lengthy illness. He was born November 3, 1918 in Chicago, Illinois, and had been a county resident for 41 years, coming from Santa Barbara.Mr. Rybarczyk had been employed as the manager of McMahan Furniture. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Amvets, Knights of Columbus, and the Santa Paula Chamber of Commerce, and was the originator of the Santa Paula Citrus Festival. He served in World War II as a master sergeant in the 132nd Infantry, and received the Bronze Star.He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marian Rybarczyk of Santa Paula; daughter Robin (husband, Ted) Strauss of Corvalis, Oregon; son Lynn Rybarczyk of San Diego; five grandchildren; and nephews, George Frenzel of Anchorage, Alaska, and Bruce Rybarczyk of Des Plains, Illinois.Mass will be held at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Santa Paula on December 2 at 10:30 a.m.Arrangements are under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula.
