Friday, March 14 is a day for musical “Encounters,” performed by the Ventura College Community Orchestra.
Friday, March 14 is a day for musical “Encounters,” performed by the Ventura College Community Orchestra. Starting at 8 p.m., the program includes music inspired by the mystery most famously explored in “The Da Vinci Code.” Tickets are $5 for students and seniors, and $10 for general admission. Tickets may only be purchased at the door the evening of the concert.Wagner, in his great opera “Parsifal,” tells the story of knights in search of the Holy Grail. That object was somewhat undefined and the legend is clouded in mystery. The section called “Good Friday Spell” captures this feeling. A more modern example of music inspired by this theme is “Quest for the Grail” by Michael Mogensen It focuses on the urgency and energy of the Knights of the Templar, and thus the music exhibits the other side of the story, power, vision and struggle. Soloist for the evening is Louise Lofquist. Ms. Lofquist is a professor at Pepperdine University and an established concert artist. Her selection is the famous “Piano Concerto in A Minor” by Robert Schumann. This is a romantic work with delicious dialogue between the piano and the orchestra. Like other famous concertos, the piano part is spectacular and thrilling.
