By Peggy Kelly Santa Paula TimesA motor home that caught fire behind an area liquor store on Friday was reported to have people inside, but that proved not to be true, according to a Santa Paula Fire Department official. Chief Rick Araiza said that the fire was reported behind Four Guys Liquor, located at the corner of Main and 12th Streets, November 30 at about noon.“The owner of the Class C motor home had been evicted from the Pepper Tree Mobile Home Park,” and had moved his vehicle to Four Guys Liquor “and parked in back” that same night, said Araiza. When Santa Paula firefighters arrived on scene, the motor home was “fully involved” in flames.“We got reports of people inside the motor home, but when firefighters knocked down the fire we did a search and there was no one inside the vehicle.” The unidentified owner of the motor home “was not at the scene” during the firefight, Araiza noted.
Santa Paula firefighters returned to the scene about an hour after they extinguished the fire. “It was still smoldering and we went back out” to ensure that the fire was completely out.Araiza said Saturday that the owner of the motor home - which was completely destroyed by the fire - had still not been located and that the owner had not notified authorities about the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
