Good Time Entertainment - a professional entertainment company owned by Santa Paula Native, Mark Delgado, based in Oxnard, is proud to announce a Latin Jazz Dinner Show headlining Grammy Award Winner for “Best Latin Jazz Performance”, Poncho Sanchez on Augusta 10, 2007 at Casa Lopez located at 325 S. A St. in Oxnard. This promises to be a sold out event.Today, Sanchez’s life story has become a well-known part of Latin jazz lore. He was born in Texas on October 30, 1951 into a large Mexican-American family (rumor has it that his mother at 13 years fled to the U.S. after hiding under the bed as revolutionary Pancho Villa stormed her village), but grew up in the Los Angeles area, where he was weaned on a broad range of Latin and non-Latin popular music. Inspired by the conga playing of Cuban great Mongo Santamaria, he honed his skills as a percussionist and broke into the limelight at the age of 23 when he joined vibraphonist Cal Tjader’s famed Latin jazz ensemble in 1975. Poncho performed with him until Tjader’s untimely death in 1982. A year later, he began his unprecedented 23 year relationship with Concord Records, which has produced two dozen recordings, a GRAMMY(r) Award and several GRAMMY nominations. The partnership between Mark Delgado of Good Time Entertainment and Sal Rodriguez of the world renowned music group WAR is sure to be a hit with various venues in Ventura County. The two have and are planning to bring a high caliber of entertainment consisting of Jazz, R&B, Country Western, Classic Rock and other genres of music performers to this area. They are pleased to kick off their first show together with the legendary Poncho Sanchez.Sal Rodriguez has been playing music professionally for over thirty years and is currently the drummer for the music group, WAR.
