Girls beat Channel Islands but drop last pre-league game to Pacifica

The Lady Cardinals took a 15-7 win over Channel Islands Tuesday. Nianna Morris had 7 strikeouts for Santa Paula. It was cold and drizzly and the field was wet but the Lady Cards played a great game.The Raiders gave up 14 walks and the Santa Paula bats were hot and the defense played well.Shaylene Jimenez went 2 for 5 with 5 RBIs, Nianna Morris went 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs, Talisa Garcia was 2 for 3 with 4 runs, and Andrea Sliger went 1 for 4 with 3 RBIs.The girls lost their last pre-league game Wednesday to Pacifica, 6-1.Despite the final score the Lady Cardinals played an excellent game for 6 of the 7 innings against one of the best teams in the area.Santa Paula had three errors in the 5th inning that gave Pacifica 2 runs. The Lady Cards got their lone run in the 7th inning.
Janessa Pulido pitched well after a slow start in the 1st inning. Pacifica struck out 12 Santa Paula batters.Shaylene Jimenez went 1 for 1, Katie Lewis was 1 for 1, Andrea Sliger went 1 for 3 and had 1 run, and Summer Ming was 1 for 1.This loss gives the Lady Cardinals a 3-8 season record.
