Varsity boys drop two at Santa Clara

The varsity Cardinal baseball team suffered back-to-back losses at Santa Clara Saturday. In the first game the Cards lost 19-5. Andrew Burboa went 1 for 4 with 1 single, 2 walks and 2 RBIs. Matt Phillips was 2 for 4 with 2 singles and 2 RBIs. George Garcia went 2 for 4 with 2 singles.The Cards came back stronger in the second game but lost 10-7. Phillips was 2 for 5 with 2 singles and 1 RBI. Burboa was 2 for 4 with a single, a double and 3 RBIs. Joey Villa was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and 1 RBI.Coach Manuel Herrera said the team improved in the second game and the pitchers were doing their job, “but they had no backup.” He added that overall the team is getting better.
The boys play at St. Bonaventure today at 3:30 p.m. They host St. Bonnie Friday, also at 3:30 p.m.
