Ventura County’s original Ghostwalk® starts its 12th annual haunt on Friday, October 13, 2006, and runs three weekends through Sunday, October 29. This year’s ghostoric location is Condor Truck Service at 1395 East Harvard Blvd., near Harding Park, in Santa Paula. Ghostly excursions leave from the front office every fifteen minutes starting at 6:30 p.m.; the last tour starts at 9:00. Check-in time is 15 minutes before tour time. Admission is $15 for adults and $8 for students with ID cards. A discount rate of $12 is available for adults the first weekend only. Reservations are recommended; working flashlights are required. Tickets go on saleOctober 1. Call (805) 525-3073 for reservations or visit www.ghostwalk.com.Not a “haunted house”, Ghostwalk® is a unique form of theatre in the streets that embraces the tradition of great storytelling mixed with local history. Each walking tour is led by a Ghost Guide and lasts about an hour; most of the route is wheelchair accessible. Ghostwalk® is suitable for families with children 7 and older; but not recommended for young children and infants in strollers. Working flashlights are mandatory.“What’s fun about Ghostwalk® is that because it’s in a different location every year, you can come year after year and never see the same show twice,” said Mary Alice Henderson, Ghostwalk’s founder and committee chair. “Not all of our ghosts are based on real people, but all of the tales are tied to actual incidents, disasters, or general history of the city of Santa Paula or the Santa Clara River Valley.”
Ghostwalk® was started by Henderson and a group of fellow volunteers as a benefit for the Santa Paula Theater Center. After a dozen years, it remains the theater’s primary source of non-box office revenue.Seven ghosts will materialize at the Condor Truck lot this year, all of them new tothe Ghostwalk® repertoire. Tour groups are limited to twenty-five and reservations are recommended. Refreshments and ghostly souvenirs will be for sale at the event.
