By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesAn altercation resulting from words exchanged about a particular professional football team - the Raiders - turned uglier when it resulted in a car-to-car shooting Wednesday afternoon, according to a Santa Paula Police Department spokesman. No one was injured in the shooting, noted SPPD Sgt. Michael Saviers, who was flagged down by the victim Wednesday at about 1 p.m. in the 300 block of North Peck Road.“The motorist, a Santa Paula resident, reported that he had just been shot at by the driver of another vehicle in the area of Calavo Street and Telegraph Road,” noted Sgt. Saviers. The description of the driver and the vehicle - a newer model brown Nissan Altima - was broadcast to the California Highway Patrol and Ventura Police by Sgt. Saviers, who with the victim observed the vehicle headed to westbound Highway 126.
According to the victim, a verbal altercation took place at a store in the 900 block of West Telegraph Road. “The victim said he felt the suspect was following him, so he followed the suspect to obtain his license plate. A second verbal altercation occurred, and the suspect brandished a black-colored handgun and fired at the victim.”Because of the sound made by the fired gun, the victim believed the weapon was a BB gun or pellet gun, Sgt. Saviers noted. “There was no damage to the victim’s vehicle and no one was injured,” and the victim said that the altercation stemmed from words exchanged about a “particular football team... the Raiders. The suspect was wearing a Raiders’ cap and he had obvious Raiders’ decals on the vehicle, indicative that he was a Raiders’ fan.”Sgt. Saviers added that the investigation is continuing.
