Antonio Rivera Pineda, Sr. Antonio Rivera Pineda, Sr., age 73, of Santa Paula, passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2000.Mr. Pineda was born June 18, 1926 in Phoenix, Arizona and was a 55 year resident of Santa Paula. He was employed by Twin Pines Convalescent Hospital for 15 years and worked as head maintenance man.Mr. Pineda served as a certified lay speaker for the United Methodist Church, a district activities chairman, and member of the Council Activity Committee for the Boy Scouts of America, 1973. He was an initial member of the Ventura County Parks Advisory Commission 1971-1977, a member of the Ventura County Community Action Committee 1965-1967, an umpire for Santa Paula Little League from 1956-1998, a Santa Paula Parks and Recreation director, and a member of the El Buen Pastor United Methodist Church of Santa Paula.He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret Pineda of Santa Paula; his children, Steve and wife Joesy Pineda of Hayward, Tony Jr. and wife Margaret Pineda, Emily Acosta, Albert Pineda, Theresa Pineda, Tommy Pineda and Danny Pineda, all of Santa Paula, Dolores and husband Jose Sumaran of Victorville, and Marissa Pineda of Santa Paula; grandchildren, Corporal Jacob J. Avila, Ernesto Acosta, Eileen Montano, Manuel Escamilla, Leonard Prado, Stephanie Prado, Isaac Sumaran, Anthony Pineda, Robert Vega, Anthony Pineda III, Steven Pineda II, Stephanie Pineda, Valentina Pineda and Jade Pineda; six great grandchildren, Leandra Montano, Ramiro Montano, Seth Escamilla, Christian Vega, Anthony Cruz Pineda and Matthew Sanchez; and brothers, Albino and wife Naomi Pineda of Santa Paula, and Manuel Pineda of Texas.Mr. Pineda was preceded in death by his parents, Emilio Pineda and Dolores Rivera Pineda, and by his sisters, Josephine Rabago, Dolores Zavala and Lucy Chavez, and his brother Isidro Pineda.The sun risesThe sun setsOh how easily one forgets...Dad, we’ll never forget you.Services for Mr. Pineda were held Monday, February 7 at El Buen Pastor United Methodist Church. Burial was at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Santa Paula.Walter T. DavisWalter T. Davis, son of John H. and Lula Davis, was born on October 4, 1911 in Flintridge, Dallas County, Missouri. He departed this life February 4, 2000.Walter achieved tremendous success during his life. Together he and his beloved wife of 62 years, Opal Owens Davis (deceased May 8, 1991), raised five children, all of whom survive him: James of Ojai, Joyce Siemmons of Valley Center, Jerry of Fillmore, Jeanette Crow of Laughlin, Nevada, and Jack of Ojai. Walter was the proud grandfather of seven, and great grandfather of 15. Two sisters, Mrs. Geneva Engle and Dora Keithley, both of Springfield, Missouri, also survive him, together with one brother, O. E. (Gene) Davis of Buffalo, Missouri.Walter made his peace with God at an early age and joined the Center Point Baptist Church in Buffalo, MO. He later became a member of the First Baptist Church in Santa Paula.Walter and his family came to Ventura County from Missouri in 1936. He worked as an operating engineer, owning his company until 1960. He moved to Northern California, and then to Valley Center in San Diego County before his return to Ventura County last year.Walter had been in failing health in recent years. He was a loving father and bore his illness with patience and cheerfulness. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.Graveside services were held February 8 at the Santa Paula Cemetery, with Pastor Mark Fisk officiating.Arrangements under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula.
