October is designated as Tole and Decorative Painters Month. Decorative painting is a teachable art form, which incorporates all types of surfaces, such as wood, tin, fabric, candles, glass and canvas. Tole painting is the term formerly used for painting on tin surfaces, especially in New England and by the Pennsylvania Germans. “Decorative” painting encompasses all surfaces and materials. Learning to paint is possible through the techniques incorporated in decorative painting, using patterns or freehand designs. Knowing how to draw is not a prerequisite; anyone can learn. Painting is a very gratifying experience and sharing the love of painting through gifts or teaching others is very uplifting.Poinsettia Painters is the Ventura County Chapter of the National Society of Decorative Painters. Our monthly meeting is on the second Monday of each month in Camarillo. Santa Paula has eight painters involved in this chapter. If interested, you can call Laura Staben, 525-3437; Shirley Stafford, 525-3183; or Inez Holt, 525-3761.
