Ric Romero is the hard-charging consumer reporter for ABC 7 Eyewitness News who wants you to save you money. And on Friday, July 1, during the 5 p.m. broadcast, Romero is expected to talk up visiting Santa Paula and its historic Glen Tavern Inn, a fun getaway less than a tank of gas away from Los Angeles.

Romero and his crew stopped at the Glen Tavern Inn on June 20, according to General Manager Monica De La Torre, who noted, “I asked them how they heard about us, but they didn’t tell me so I have no idea.... Ric Romero said ‘We just love this area.’”

De La Torre said the consumer reporter told her the larger places have the more obvious attractions that make them better known to the general public. Romero told her, “But we came out here and discovered so much” in Santa Paula, where they spent hours filming.

That included an interview with Rosanna Jennett, Monica’s mother, who owns the Inn with husband Tom Jennett. De La Torre said filming was done inside and outside the historic Inn, home to Enzo’s Restaurant located on North Mill Street. Romero learned of the Inn’s history and famous ghost, “They interviewed Mom in the penthouse, the Houdini Room, and then they left.”

One subject of conversation was the number of weddings occurring at the romantic Inn - “We’re book through December!” said De La Torre - a county, state and national Historic Landmark designed by the legendary architectural team of Burns and Hunt and opened almost 100 years ago.

Romero and his ABC 7 Eyewitness News crew also stopped at other Santa Paula attractions, including at least one museum and Garman’s Irish Pub & Restaurant on East Main Street. De La Torre said it is expected Romero’s segment on Santa Paula, a great place to visit on less than a tank of gas, will be broadcast on the July 1 5 p.m. Eyewitness News broadcast and rerun in coming days.

Overall, the visit by Romero and ABC 7 Eyewitness News “was good, it was better than good - it was awesome.... It’s great to have this part of the world discovered by more people.”
