High school board recognizes Frontier League First Team athletes

Three Cardinal baseball players, who were named to the Frontier League First Team, were honored by trustees of the Santa Paula Union High School District this week.
Johnny Carrillo, Randy Aguilera and Anthony Lopez were all lauded by the board for their achievements this past season. Carrillo, going into his senior year was the leadoff hitter all season, starting in all 27 games and playing a variety of positions. He led the team in stolen bases and was second in the county with 23. Besides being named First Team All League, he was also selected to the First Team All County and was an All CIF nominee. Aguilera, who graduated in June, also started all 27 games. He hit .351 overall and .378 in league and led the team in home runs. He was named First Team All League and First Team All County. Anthony Lopez also graduated in June. He was select First Team All League and All County and made Second Team All CIF. He led the team in hits with 32, hitting .368 overall and .405 in league. He was also the 2005 Cardinal Golden Glove winner.Coach Mike Lee told the board that the 2005 Cardinal baseball team accomplished what few thought possible. “With a relatively inexperienced team, under new leadership just weeks prior to the start of the season, the Santa Paula varsity team dedicated countless hours to reaching their potential,” Lee said. “The 2005 Cardinals accomplished what had not been done here in quite some time, and it was due in large part to these three young men.”
