Salas thanked the council for their support, and noted that the carnival company contracted by the Chamber is “family orientated, for the children,” especially those younger tykes that have few entertainment options in the city.Councilman Ray Luna said that although the Chamber has been sponsoring the carnival for a little over a decade, “However you’ve been providing service to Santa Paula through the Chamber for how long?”Twenty-five years, said Salas, including support to Santa Paula Memorial Hospital, the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Paula and fire victims. “It all goes to good,” Salas noted.The carnival will feature a variety of rides for children of all ages, games, prizes and food vendors.

The 12th Annual Mexican American Chamber of Commerce Carnival will have a new location this year, a move welcomed by the Chamber president.

The carnival will be held April 22, 23 and 24 at Teague Park, located on West Harvard Boulevard.Chamber President Victor Salas told the City Council at the April 11 meeting that although the organization had planned on having the carnival “across the street” from City Hall at Veterans Memorial Park, as customary, the Chamber was informed that such events had to be relocated. “We were told we must have the carnival at Teague Park; we’ve been trying for years to get Teague Park” to stage the three-day event.Salas noted that the proceeds from the annual carnival are used for scholarships. “Our funds are for college bound students, mostly from Santa Paula Union High School although we’ve given a couple to students from Fillmore and St. Bonaventure high schools. Our emphasis is to help send these kids to college. It’s very hard to go to college,” where tuition and supplies are costly. Salas noted that the Chamber provides $350 to each scholarship student: “Nowadays, that probably buys a few books, that’s the way it is now.”
