Santa Paula Elementary School Board member Dan Robles, who lost his re-election bid last month, was honored at a reception Tuesday evening.

Robles served for 16 years on the board.  A number of SPESD employees turned out for the event along with current and past board members and former Superintendent Dr. Luis Villegas.

Michelle Kolbeck, the new board president, presented Robles with a gift from the board.  “Thanks very much for your 16 years of dedication to the children of Santa Paula and also for all the time you spent in the classroom reading books and everything you’ve done for the kids,” she told him.  Robles told teachers in the room that he is still available to come to their classrooms to read to the children.

Board member Rick Cadman also presented Robles with a gift.  “Please know your 16 years has had a mighty affect on all of us,” he said.   Acting Superintendent Dr. Joseph Condon told the gathering that Robles told him he didn’t want a special event.  “This is not about you, Dan,” he said.  “This is about everyone else.  Because, as you leave we need to honor you and thank you.  And so you give us the opportunity to do that.  In some ways this is your gift to us because we’re not peopled who would just say thank you and let you walk out the door and not say anything.”  Condon also presented Robles with a gift from the administrators and district office staff.

Robles thanked everyone for their gifts and their well wishes.  “It’s been a wonderful ride,” he said.
