William H. “Bill” Korth William H. “Bill” Korth, age 68, of Santa Paula, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2001 in Santa Paula. Bill was born and raised in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin November 19, 1932. He attended Michigan State University in East Lansing majoring in floriculture, and received his AA from Ventura College in 1971.Bill was married to his loving wife Mildred “Millie” Korth for 48 years. He moved to Santa Paula in 1958, where he was employed by the Burpee Seed Co. from 1959-66.In 1966 he went to work for the County of Ventura as a weights and measures inspector. He was appointed deputy director in 1969 and received a promotion to director in 1972, where he worked until his retirement in 1997.He served on many committees and on the Board of Directors of the California Association of weights and measures officials, being appointed as the president in 19977-78. He was president of the Southern California Association of Weights and Measures officials three different times, serving in 1974, 1983 and 1989. He was appointed by the director of the national bureau of Standards to a five-year term to committee on Administration and Education representing 14 western states. Bill served as national chairman of the National Weights and Measures Week in 1976 and 1977. He was awarded the John Lowe award for outstanding contribution to code enforcement in 1995. Bill also served as an enforcement officer for the resource management agency.He was a past member of the Santa Paula Active 20-30 Club, serving as president in 1963, where he was selected as member of the year. He was a past member of the Santa Paula Lions and Optimist clubs, served as a church elder and deacon at Santa Paula First Presbyterian Church, and served on the Santa Paula Planning Commission for 12 years, three years as chairman. Most recently he volunteered at the Santa Paula Oil Museum.
Bill is survived by his wife, Mildred “Millie” of Santa Paula; daughters, Sandra and husband John Glass of Santa Paula, Diane McLaughlin and partner Mike Hines of Santa Paula, and Barbara Hernandez of Santa Paula; and son Steve and wife Heather of Santa Paula. He was a loving grandpa to Lori, Andrew, Brian, Kevin, Katie, Matthew, Brandon, David, Emily and Sophie, and one great grandson, Angel Nathan. Sisters are Evelyn Korth, Leone Schmidt and Dorothy Schneiter.Memorial services will be Friday, March 23 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Paula.In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Bill’s memory to the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Paula, Santa Paula Memorial Hospital, or the Santa Clara Valley Hospice, or charity of one’s choice.Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
