Lindsey Lippert

Lindsey Lippert is a junior at S.P.H.S. in the Health and Human Services Academy. She was nominated by Mr. Vega, her counselor, to serve on the Student Advisory Board on Legislation in Education (S.A.B.L.E). This young lady was one of fifty California students who were nominated. The conference took place in Sacramento on February 23-25. She was an active participant and worded with a group of students advocating for improved education in public, private, and charter schools. Lindsey spoke directly with Mr. James Wilson, Chief Consultant and Staff Director for the Senate Committee on Education. The conversation centered on how the Health and Human Services Academy internships at community based sites help to prepare students for life after high school. The participants were given six topics that were presented to the State Board of Education in November 2008. They reviewed the proposals, added their ideas, and then outlined key suggestions to improve education. Her group focused on Career Technical Education. They developed propositions that were then presented to key legislators at the capitol in Sacramento. Lindsey Lippert was amazed at how receptive the assembly members were to the creative suggestions made by minors. She plans to continue her endeavors by attending a leadership camp at U.C.S.B. in July and Student Advisory Board on Education (S.A.B.E.) in the fall.
