Stanley Ray “Brownie” Brown Stanley Ray “Brownie” Brown, 82, born October 17, 1926 in Yuma, Arizona, passed away peacefully in St. George, Utah on June 14, 2009, surrounded by family and friends. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed.Brownie served in the United States Navy in World War II. He was a well-known auto mechanic and local business owner to patrons in Santa Paula, California. He was a member of the 20/30 Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars “VFW”, Knights of Columbus, Moose Lodge and several other community service organizations. Brownie retired and moved to Cedar City in 2003.Brownie enjoyed gardening, watching football, and cooking his famous Mexican dishes for his family and friends.He is preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Jackie “Lemons” Brown. Brownie is survived by his brother, Robert Brown Jr., and his five sisters, Anita B. Satz, Delores Matthews, Mary Louise McGineron, Margaret Davalos and Vivian Magallanes. Dora Rodriguez is deceased. He is also survived by daughters Shelby Brown-Hatch of Cedar City, Utah and Susan Moreno of The Colonies, Texas, and sons, Steven Brown of Cedar City, Utah and Raymond and Randy Brown of California. Brownie has seven grandchildren, Jonathan Brown of Utah, Ethan Moreno of Texas, and Raymond Curtis Brown, Matthew Brown, William Brown, Rita Brown and Amanda Brown, all of California.In lieu of flowers, contributions for family assistance may be made to Zion’s Bank, #3 South Main Street, Cedar City, UT 84720 under the Stanley Brown Memorial Fund.A memorial service will be held in his honor on Sunday, July 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 136 S. Ojai St., Santa Paula. Special thanks to the Knights of Columbus for donation of this facility.Ronald F. ManzerRonald F. Manzer, 61, of Santa Paula, died Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Community Memorial Hospital, Ventura from a sudden illness. He was born July 28, 1947 in Ventura, California, the son of Oral and Helen Manzer.After high school, he served in U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1969. He married Carol Stephens on August 31, 1968 at Point Mugu Naval Base, California.He worked at Proctor and Gamble for 20 years. During the latter part of those years, he and his wife, Carol, started Magic Sweep, a parking lot sweeping business. He owned and operated Magic Sweep for 31 years. He sold the business and retired in 2008. He loved spending time with his wife and high school sweetheart, Carol. In 1973 they won a brand new Chevrolet Nova on “Lets Make A Deal”, where they dressed as Laurel and Hardy. He loved going to car shows and working on the Nova. He also enjoyed rock and roll oldies and remodeling Jukeboxes. He enjoyed life and was always positive, friendly and caring.He is survived by his wife Carol of Santa Paula, daughter Laura of Ventura, brother Daniel Manzer and wife Barbara of Somis, sister Susan Dunlap of Ventura, niece Diana Sheil and husband Tom, nephews Daniel and Michael Frees and niece Katherine Frees, all of Westlake.Private memorial services will be held.Kenneth Kern GlennKenneth Kern Glenn, of Fillmore, peacefully passed away into heaven on Sunday, July 5, 2009 after a brief illness. He was 93 years young!Ken or Kenny, known to his family and friends, was born in El Paso, Texas on March 25, 1916 to William and Iva Glenn. He moved with his family to Quincy, Illinois for two years.When he was 6 years old they moved to Glendale, California. He graduated from Glendale High School in 1934. He received a degree in subtropical horticulture from UCLA in 1939.One of his first jobs after college was at the soils lab at Rancho Sespe. He then worked in the San Joaquin Valley at a vineyard, working in a soils lab.It was in Delano where he met Dorothy Root, and on December 22, 1943 they were married. He and Dorothy had 60 wonderful years together. Ken and Dorothy moved back to Rancho Sespe in 1947, where he worked as a field superintendent and assistant manager working his way up to executive vice president by the time he retired in 1978.Ken was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church, Fillmore Bible Church, and, most recently, Faith Community Church in Fillmore. He was a member of the Gideons International Ventura Camp.There were several organizations that Ken took an active role in for the community of Fillmore, including: 50+ year member of the Fillmore/Santa Paula Masonic Lodge #291 (recipient of the Hiram Award, 1991), 50+ year member of the Fillmore Chapter of Eastern Star #361, 50+ year member of the Scottish Rite, Al Malaikah Shriners, past president of the Fillmore Elementary School Board, member of the board of the Associates Insectary, past president of the Ventura County Farm Bureau, member of the Toastmasters Club, volunteer for Food Share for 20 years, and member of the Fillmore Citizens Patrol. He was nominated for Citizen of the Year in Fillmore in 1991.Ken was a very devoted Christian man, and always had a positive attitude with a zest for life. He was always willing to help if asked by a friend or a stranger. He enjoyed being with his family, gardening, camping, traveling, bee keeping, raising decollate snails, and most recently providing a Farmer’s Market for the residents at The Palms assisted living facility in Ventura, where he resided.
Ken will truly be missed by all who knew him. On Father’s Day, June 21, 2009, Ken told his children that they were his legacy; we have always been so proud of our Dad.Ken was preceded in death by an infant son, Gordon Wilbur Glenn in 1944, and his wife, Dorothy Glenn in 2004.Ken is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Eleanore and Mark Hanson of Gardnerville, NV; son and daughter-in-law Bailey and Sherrie Glenn of Fillmore; grandsons, Brian Hanson of Costa Mesa, CA, Mike Hanson of Santa Paula, and Matthew Glenn of Virginia Beach, VA; step-grandchildren Kelly Aguilera, Matthew Van Why and Amy Lynch, all of Fillmore; and six step-great-grandchildren.The GardenHere in its beauty,characters were molded,Like buds as they open,Pour thoughts were unfolded.Let’s pause for a moment, and in silent prayer,Be most grateful to God, forthis garden so rare.Hold fast to this thought,That wherever you roam,With love and affection,We will welcome you home.Written by Ken’s father,William Holt GlennChristmas 1939In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the TLC Home Hospice, Gideon International or the Abiding Memorial Fund of the Faith Community Church.A celebration of life for Ken will be held on Friday, July 17, 2009 at 12 p.m. at the Faith Community Church, 461 Central Ave., Fillmore, CA.
