Mary D. DominguezMary D. Dominguez, 70, was born in Santa Paula, California on July 31, 1938. She was the daughter of Marcial and Concepcion Duran. She was a resident of Ventura County throughout her life, living briefly in San Diego, California. Mary passed away after a lengthy illness on Friday, March 27, 2009, with her family by her side.Mary was a homemaker the majority of her life. She worked for a short while at Santa Paula Memorial Hospital.Mary loved her family, and took her greatest pleasure in the company of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved family outings, and was a fantastic cook. Her home was always a safe and loving haven of goodness and hospitality. She was devoted to her children, sisters and brothers and parents.Mary is survived by her children, Joanne (Terry) Helton of Santa Paula, Ronnie (Jane) Dominguez of Camarillo, Donald (Leonor) Dominguez of South Pasadena, and Gilbert Dominguez Jr. of Santa Paula; sisters Nadine Hernandez and Sally Duran; grandchildren Arlene (Malcom) Prado, Katie Dominguez, Timothy Dominguez, Jacqueline Dominguez, and Raquel Dominguez; great-grandchildren Marcus Prado, Alyssa Prado, and Marcel Prado; mother-in-law Lucy Dominguez; brother-in-law John (Dolores) Dominguez; sister-in-law Laura Duran; and numerous nieces and nephews.Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Gilbert Dominguez.The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the medical staff at Community Memorial Hospital and Mary’s primary physician Dr. Gary Deutsch for the excellent medical care and support provided to our mother. Also a special thank you to her caregiver Juanita Mendoza.Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on April 2 at Saint Sebastian’s Church in Santa Paula, officiated by Father Pasquale Vuoso. Interment will follow at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Skillin Carroll Mortuary, 805-525-3391.Our mother, grandmother and sister will be greatly missed by all who truly loved and cared for her dearly. “God could not be everywhere, so he created mothers,” which is so descriptive of Mary Dominguez.

Jack Lowell Prieur
Jack Lowell Prieur was born August 25, 1930 in Santa Paula. He was the first son of Tony and Opal Prieur, Santa Paula residents. He passed away March 21st in a Victorville rest home.Jack attended Isbell Elementary School and went on to graduate from Santa Paula High School in June of 1948. He enrolled at Cal Poly San Dimas in the fall of 1948.While attending school there he met Dorothy Jean Johnson. They were married in Santa Paula March 22, 1951.At that time it was required that you attend Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo prior to graduation. Jack received his degree in agriculture from there in 1952.After graduation he worked for a couple of different chemical companies. He ended up working 50 years for AMVAC, a chemical company in Los Angeles. Upon retirement he was vice president in charge of sales for AMVAC.He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy, daughter Valerie Gereghty, son Joe and wife Eileen, and son Jeff and wife Nickie. He had eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Peggy Grainger and husband Bob of Santa Paula, and brother Bill Prieur and wife Joanne of San Francisco. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.Gwen (Homer) BakerGwen (Homer) Baker died at home Tuesday, March 24th. She was born May 19, 1927 in Douglas, Wyoming, and was a resident of Ventura County for the last 60 years. Gwen lived in Santa Paula for 45 years, and in Ojai for 15 years.She is survived by her husband, James N. (Bill) Baker of Ojai, and her son Greg Homer and wife Helen of Placerville, CA. She has two granddaughters, Corrin Homer of Sacramento and her partner Amy Dill, and SharDae Brown of Washington state. She leaves four nieces: Sondra Klapp and husband Roy of Prescott Valley, AZ, Judy Sibrian and husband Buddy of Ventura, Elaine Ludy of Poway, CA, and Jan Siberling and husband Bob of Helena, Montana; and many great nieces and nephews who were like her own.She was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Don Homer, who passed away in 1968; and her son Philip, who passed away in 2000.Gwen was an active singer, tap dancer, and performer well into her 70s.Gwen wishes to be remembered for the love she had for her family and friends. Those who knew her are requested to recall and remember the pleasant memories in their own manner.
