Paul Leavens Jr. inducted into Ventura County Republican Hall of Fame

Paul Leavens Jr. was inducted into the Ventura County Republican Hall of Fame on Saturday, April 30 at a gala event. Leslie Cornejo, Central Committee chair, hosted the event and introduced a rounded and respected line-up of civic and elected officials who shared in honoring Paul for a variety of accomplishments. Dignitaries on hand were The Honorable Robert Lagomarsino, the honorable Elton Gallegly, State Senator George Runner, The Honorable Nao Takasugi, Assembly members Keith Richman and Audra Strickland and District Attorney Greg Totten.Former Santa Paula Mayor Alan Teague delivered a respectful but humorous keynote roast of the recipient, recalling a friendship and working relationship of over forty years. A memorable video was presented which portrayed Paul’s life from a young boy through his school years, military service in the Navy, college, working and family life. There were numerous photos with an array of local, state and national leaders including President Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush.Every presenter was quick to note Paul’s commitment to country and community with his untiring efforts to make both a better place. They also noted his predictable humility, winsome style of encouragement and “get it done” attitude.
His wife, Carolyn, highly accomplished in her own right, was acknowledged for her tireless work in bringing a four-year university to Ventura County.Previous Hall of Fame recipients include Robert J. Lagomarsino, Gwen Tillemans, The Teague Family, Federation of Republican Women, Katherine Hoffman Haley, Nao Takasugi, Brooks Firestone, Robert D. Nesen, Justice William P. Clark, Frank McDonald, Michael D. Bradbury, Frank A. Visco, and Elton Gallegly.
