Briggs School District hires new superintendent

On Wednesday, June 9, 2004 the Board of Education of the Briggs Elementary School District hired Dr. Mike McLaughlin, of Etna, California as its new superintendent.

On Wednesday, June 9, 2004 the Board of Education of the Briggs Elementary School District hired Dr. Mike McLaughlin, of Etna, California as its new superintendent. The appointment is effective July 1, 2004.Dr. McLaughlin will be taking over from Carol L. Vines, the District’s current superintendent, who is retiring on June 30, 2004 - after 15 years of service to the District. The District honored Mrs. Vines in March of this year by naming the recently completed Administration Building at Olivelands School in her honor.Dr. McLaughlin was selected after a thorough search conducted with the assistance of the California School Boards Association. He was one of 28 applicants who applied for the position.Dr. McLaughlin is a third generation superintendent, who earned his A.A. in Language Arts from the College of the Sequoias and his B.S. in Organization Behavior from the University of San Francisco. He went on to earn an M.A. in Education/Curriculum & Instruction/Administration from Chapman University, and his Ed.D. in Education Administration & Policy from the University of Southern California. He comes to Briggs from the Etna Union Elementary School District in Siskiyou County, California, where he served as Superintendent/Principal.
Among Dr. McLaughlin’s achievements during his three-year tenure at Etna UESD were the establishment of a K-12 charter school and the development of a 3-acre outdoor learning center. He is a prolific grant writer who, during his tenure with Etna UESD, helped bring in over $1.6 million of new funding to the district.Dr. McLaughlin believes that his success as an administrator “depends on building relationships with my staff, parents, children and the community.” The Briggs Elementary School District is pleased to welcome Dr. McLaughlin to our community
