A long time ago in what is now Ventura County, barns were built to house much of the equipment for crops grown on the Oxnard plain. Now, many of the barns are gone; some just fell down due to age, others are gone because of bad weather, fire, and new construction of homes.Whatever the reason, the number of barns is very quickly decreasing. These majestic buildings will soon be gone forever.
Author and photographer Ron Fischer has tried to “photograph all of the barns in Ventura County, so that the children of many of the families will know what it was like when their parents, grandparents and great-grandparents were growing up in the beautiful Ventura County.” He will be signing his best-selling book about “The Barns of Ventura County” on June 15th at 7 p.m. at Border’s books on the Esplanade in Oxnard.
