It's no secret that Santa Paulans are art lovers with most homes sporting painting after painting, photographs galore, and more fine art. Running out of space to indulge that love of art?Never fear, the Santa Paula Society of the Arts is staging a special Miniature Art Sale this weekend at The Mill Gallery that promises to enable even the most artwork burdened to be able to buy just the perfect gift for themselves or others that will fit in anywhere. The SPSA staged a July 4th special sale at Depot Park that offered an array of paintings by noted area artists for only $25 each, giving them them the incentive to try more unique sale events. So far, “We're got somewhere between 20 and 25 paintings for the Miniature Sale, and people are bringing in more,” said SPSA President Lynda Gruber.“We had such a good turnout for the Depot Park sale that the society members started talking about having a miniature sale soon thereafter, but our artists didn't have that many miniatures,” Gruber said. “But we were thinking about it and have had a lot of calls about staging a miniature sale, our artists and the public seemed to be very interested in the concept.”There are miniatures and there are miniatures: each of the paintings featured during this weekend's sale will start at miniature prices of $15 but size-wise a miniature painting is considered an artwork 14 inches and under.
“There's some pretty big miniatures out there,” Gruber said with a laugh. “Even an 11 inch by 14 inch is considered a miniature. . .it depends on the artist and what they want to do.”Art lovers will be delighted at the selection including such noted artists as Tink Strother, Madeline Ricards, Gruber and others. The Miniature Sale paintings will be displayed on table tops and “Our artists are still working on things for this weekend. . .paintings make wonderful gifts, and each one is one of a kind.”The Mill is located on the corner of Mill Street and Railroad Avenue; the SPSA Mill Gallery is located at the extreme southwest corner of the store. For more information, call the SPSA at 525-1104.
