SPMH: Auxiliary installs new board, awards volunteer hour pins

If members of the Santa Paula Memorial Hospital were paid for all their services through the year, the bill - calculated at the accepted volunteer worth rate of about $16 a hour - would come to over $102,000 for the 6,362.25 hours donated last year.

By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesIf members of the Santa Paula Memorial Hospital were paid for all their services through the year, the bill - calculated at the accepted volunteer worth rate of about $16 a hour - would come to over $102,000 for the 6,362.25 hours donated last year.Between sewing, front desk help, working the Pink Parasol Gift Shop and helping on the floor the Auxiliary members keep SPMH humming with their volunteer efforts.Auxiliary volunteers were lauded at their recent annual meeting where service pins were awarded and the Auxiliary Board of Directors installed.“This is the 41st annual Auxiliary luncheon,” said Auxiliary President Jody Caudillo introduced special guests, including Auxiliary Charter Members Gwen Dewey, Angie Shelton, Velma Olivier and Rose Garden Founder Cathy Barringer. Also introduced were Carol Burhoe and Anita Tate, SPMH directors, and Dr. Ernest Carlson, a Foundation member and former longtime hospital director.
Receiving special treatment was Pauline Hair, who will turn 93 on Dec. 7th and said she is retiring from the Gift Shop.“Pauline said it’s too late to buy a new uniform” to replace her worn out smock and shoes, said Lavonne Deeter, who presented Hair with same to laughter and applause. . .and the sincere hope she won’t retire.Receiving 5,500 Hour Bars were Martha Knight, Lucille Morgan and Jane Wigley; a 5,000 Hour Bar went to LaWanda Campbell; Penny Buettner received a 2,500 Hour Bar and Deeter, Caudillo, Annette Subic and Madeline Ricards respectively received 2,000, 1,500, 1,200 and 1,000 hour bars.Millie Korth and Clara Behrens were lauded with 700 Hour Bars; 500 Hour Bars were awarded to Rosalie Easton and Vera Marostica; LaVern Alburty, Lorraine Engelsgaard, Loretta Ferjo and Lee Jensen received 200 Hour Bars and Marilyn Murray a 100 Hour Bar.Installed by Lavonne Deeter were President Jody Caudillo, First Vice President Alice Mensing, Second Vice President Hannelore Romero, Recording Secretary Penny Buettner, Corresponding Secretary Marilyn Murray and Treasurer Lee Jensen.
