A special Demonstration Meeting will be sure to draw art lovers on Nov. 14th when the Santa Paula Society of the Arts presents prominent artist Ray Ayers. As always, the society wants those interested in attending to remember you don't have to be a member to attend Demonstration Meetings, where the opportunity is presented to win the work of art done at the meeting for the benefit of the group. The meeting will be held starting at 2 p.m., said Virginia Gunderson of the SPSA. "The meeting is open to the public and all those wanting to make a small donation can take part in the drawing for the demonstration piece done by Ayers," she noted.Often described by his contemporaries as "An Artist's Artist", Ayers is a man who finds beauty in many everyday subjects; an abandoned building, much used coffee pot, old squeaky gate, crumbling stone wall, "Objects that reflect a way of life that is slipping from our grasp as we hurtle towards the 21st Century," he said.Skilled and competent in numerous mediums, this prolific artist prefers the beauty and spontaneity of watercolors and teaches in this medium thru workshops as well as structured classes.Ayers has created well over 30 limited edition lithographs, numerous book illustrations, and is affiliated and represented in galleries from San Diego to San Juan Island, WA.A member of the Gold Coast Watercolor Society and Westlake Village Art Guild, Ayers is a past president of the Camarillo Art Center.
His studio, which he maintains at his home, is open to the public by appointment: His invitation to visit is expressed quite simply, "The coffee pot is always on so feel free to drop by. . .just give me a call first."The Nov. 14th Demonstration Meeting will be held at the Clubhouse, 265 Beckwith Road, Santa Paula. For more information about the Demonstration Meeting or the Santa Paula Society of the Arts, call President Lynda Gruber at 525-4732 or Gunderson at 525-4609.
