Chamber of Commerce installs officers, new President Kay Wilson-Bolton

“Go Ahead, Tug on Superman’s Cape” was the theme of the annual Santa Paula Chamber of Commerce annual meeting and awards dinner held Jan. 26 at the Community Center that featured the installation of officers, including President Kay Wilson-Bolton. By Peggy KellySanta Paula Times“Go Ahead, Tug on Superman’s Cape” was the theme of the annual Santa Paula Chamber of Commerce annual meeting and awards dinner held Jan. 26 at the Community Center that featured the installation of officers, including President Kay Wilson-Bolton.The sold-out evening featured the Presentation of Colors by Cub Scout Pack 3304, Pledge of Allegiance led by Mayor Ray Luna, Invocation with Vice Mayor Laura Flores Espinosa and “God Bless America” sung by Kelly McKeever. Rob Sawyer was the master of ceremonies and introduced the dignitaries on hand including Councilmen Don Johnson and John Procter, Supervisor Kathy Long as well as Port Hueneme Councilman Jon Sharkey, Robert Borrego, Latino Town Hall president, among others. Speedy recovery wishes went out to former Mayor and businessman Carl Barringer and the late Mel Howery, city Recreation Director and later Chamber executive director, was remembered fondly.Outgoing President Anne Davis was lauded for leading the chamber: “It’s a tough job, and the small but mighty Anne led the chamber with perseverance and dignity,” said Sup. Long as she presented Davis with a special proclamation.Davis also received proclamations from Brian Miller on behalf of Rep. Elton Gallegly, Cindy Cunningham representing Sen. Jack O’Connell, Sue Broidy on behalf of Assemblywoman Hannah-Beth Jackson and Mayor Luna, among other honors presented.
The chamber’s Mission Statement is “Promoting economic vitality ad being the voice of business; Wilson-Bolton noted that the last “overview of progress and changes in Santa Paula,” was over a decade ago, and much has happened since in the business community including the creation of new and exciting businesses that reflect the belief that numerous entrepreneurs have in Santa Paula. “. . .they are making things happen, not only in Santa Paula but also in the Heritage Valley to which we are strongly linked.”Wilson-Bolton said her goal for 2002 is to “continue energizing a ‘real Chamber of Commerce’ standing for good business, good government, good relationships with City Hall and the attractor and retainer of good business in Santa Paula. Together we can build a city of integrity and prosperity for everyone with a leadership base representing the entire community. . .I, too, need a chamber of commerce that positively affects my business. I need a chamber in places where I can’t always be. I need eyes and ears listening and evaluating issues so I don’t have to. I want services from the chamber that I can’t get from other places,” including chamber advocating positions and knowing how the chamber views issues that affects the businesses and the community overall.Bill Buratto installed the new officers: Vice Presidents Nick Vrajich PhD, Zahid Shah, Frank Brommenschenkel, Donna Stewart and Ben Shuck; Directors Mark Gregson, Ron Hendren, Connie Tushla, Bob Russell, Dr. Raul Reyes, Esther Marquez and Gene Caulfield. Outgoing directors thanked were Maria Bombara, Debbie Johnson, Richard Garcia, Jane Lax, Brenda Padgett, Jim Reeves, Denise Maltby, Christine Tonello, Remey Ortiz and Nancy Williams.
