A large bus converted to an RV and its contents was a complete loss after a fast-moving fire Tuesday on the 100 block of North Palm Avenue, just south of Santa Barbara Street.

According to Santa Paula Fire Firefighter/PIO Andy VanSciver, “The call came in at 5:05 p.m. and the first Santa Paula Fire units were there in less than five minutes,” with mutual aid provided by Ventura County Fire.

When firefighters arrived on scene they found that the fire had broken through the roof at the rear of the converted bus, “And flames were 10 to 15 feet above the RV. Heavy black smoke was coming out of all the windows and doors…”

At first said VanSciver, “The neighbors were indicating that possibly someone was inside but it turned out not to be true,” and the owner was later located on scene.

VanSciver said it is unknown if the RV was being used as a living unit but “There was a lot of stuff in the unit…”

The cause of the fire may never be determined as the RV was a “total loss, totally gutted…”

There is no estimate of damages.

Although the RV was parked behind a structure VanSciver said no other buildings or vehicles were threatened by the fire, which was knocked down by 5:30 p.m.

No firefighters were injured during the incident.
