Laughter is the best medicine, good for the heart and the soul — and the Santa Paula Senior Center will be offering up a tacos and chuckles at a special September 30 comedy show and luncheon event.

All are invited for a hilarious performance by Michael Sherman and to enjoy a tasty Taco Bar at the center, 530 W. Main St., from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The cost is only $3 each for a delicious lunch and plenty of laughs.

Senior Coordinator Beverly Ruiz is a fan of Sherman’s since she got his act at The Golden Years 50-Plus Expo.

“I actually went to the expo,” said Ruiz and caught comedian-impressionist Sherman’s act.

“He’s also a senior and very, very entertaining and I thought why not? Michael’s humor specifically caters to the senior population and he performs at senior centers…I thought let’s try this so in the future we can do different things!”

Sherman is known for Impressive Impressionable Impressions of famed celebrities of the past and present from Louis Armstrong, Jack Benny and Al Jolson to Frank Sinatra, Ed Sullivan, Al Pacino, Tammy Lynette even Laurel and Hardy! His Golden Oldies of Goodies offers plenty of giggles and guffaws that Ruiz said the seniors will love.

“Laughter is the best medicine, especially for seniors and a comedy show really fits into the whole point of having our special events for seniors,” said Ruiz, “To get them out and make sure they have a good time!”

There are other Senior Center events on the horizon that Ruiz is considering including bus trips to Hearst’s Castle and Solvang.

“I’m pretty sure we’ll go to Solvang first,” said Ruiz.

How about a comedian on the bus to entertain the seniors?

“Oh, I don’t know about that,” Ruiz laughed, “but it would be nice!”
