Heavy rainfall Saturday causes flooding in two Main Street businesses

When it rained, it really rained and two Main Street businesses experienced flooding during Saturday’s downpour that dumped about 2 inches of rain on the city in less than two hours in a weekend already busy for Santa Paula firefighters.

By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesWhen it rained, it really rained and two Main Street businesses experienced flooding during Saturday’s downpour that dumped about 2 inches of rain on the city in less than two hours in a weekend already busy for Santa Paula firefighters.In all the Thanksgiving weekend was “a little busier than normal,” with 22 calls for varied services, said Interim Fire Chief (IFC) Rick Araiza.There were four vehicle accidents including one on Friday that required a heavy rescue, said IFC Araiza.Three people were transported to Santa Paula Memorial Hospital after the 12:20 p.m. two vehicle collision that occurred at the intersection of Palm Avenue and Harvard Boulevard.
Another two car accident left another two people with minor injuries at about 10:30 p.m. Friday night at the intersection of Palm Avenue and Ventura Street.Saturday’s rains flooded two businesses on East Main Street.IFC Araiza said Gordino’s Barber Shop, 961 E. Main St., was the scene of heavy flooding after a drain became plugged in the rear parking lot at about 12:38 p.m. The overflow also hit Patron’s Hair Stylist next door at 959 E. Main St.“A lot of water, firefighters estimated over 80 gallons, flooded Gordino’s,” said IFC Araiza. “Patron’s next door got maybe five gallons of the flooding. . .”
