Those taking part in one of Santa Paula’s most enduring fundraisers circled the track this past weekend for 24 hours straight because “Cancer Never Sleeps” but Relay for Life is at the ready to knock the disease out.

The 13th Annual American Cancer Society/Santa Paula Relay for Life was held Saturday and Sunday at Limoneira Soccer Fields just east of Hallock Drive. This year’s Relay was again chaired by Gwen Harrod and John Marquez.Relay for Life started Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Survivor’s March; other special events were the Luminaria Lighting Saturday evening at 8 p.m. and closing ceremonies Sunday at 10 a.m. (Above) The first walk of the day was the “Survivors Walk”  led by Supervisor Kathy Long. The Heritage Valley Drum Line led the walk and after the lap each “Survivor” was given a medal by the Santa Paula Fire Department.
