By Peggy Kelly Santa Paula Times More than 3,400 Southern California Edison customers were out of power Friday after a rain-soaked tree fell onto a power pole holding overhead conductors at Santa Paula Street and Cemetery Road.

The March 7 incident occurred at about 7:50 a.m. according to SCE Region Manager Nancy Williams.

When the tree fell it struck the pole and overhead conductors and brought down power lines.

Said Williams, “It’s a main line, pretty much everything west of the cemetery was out,” after the tree fell and hit the pole.

The outage affected people living within the boundaries of Fagan Canyon and Harvard Boulevard and 12th Street to Cummings Road.

Power was restored to many customers mid-city within a minute but others haD to wait until 10:45 p.m.

Santa Paula Street at Cemetery Road was closed in both directions while a SCE crew carefully cut apart and removed the tree and made the repairs to restore power.

In all, 3,441 customers were affected by the outage.

The incident occurred in the same area where the week before a tree had to be removed after it was found to be leaning over Santa Paula Street following several days of rain.
