More than 50 people were interviewed, and now you can see why they all say the SP on South Mountain really means “Santa Paula - Special Place, Special People.” The video will debut Thursday, September 12 at the Limoneira Pavilion.
At 6 p.m. the evening will start with wine and hors d’oeuvres, with the screening at 6:45 p.m. The Limoneira Pavilion is located at 55 Hallock Drive, and the screening event is free but people who would like to attend must make a reservation.
According to Chamber of Commerce President and Limoneira Marketing Director John Chamberlain, “We all know what a special community Santa Paula is, and over the past several months interviews have been conducted with people throughout our community the production.”
Chamberlain said Santa Paula native and former Mayor John Procter is credited with the title of “Santa Paula - Special Place, Special People”: “Years ago John said that he felt the ‘SP’ on South Mountain represented not only Santa Paula, but that Santa Paula was a special place with special people. This video captures the beauty of our region, the excitement of our events, the charm and authenticity of our downtown, and the vibrancy of our people.”
Bob Raser of the award-winning RLR Production Group spent months in Santa Paula interviewing residents and filming the video that shows various aspects of the city and her residents.
“We’re proud of all of the great things going on in Santa Paula,” said Chamberlain. “This is a great community and hundreds of people are involved in making this community an authentically wonderful place. It’s why,” noted Chamberlain, “Santa Paula has been designated a Preserve America Community.”
Preserve America recognizes and designates communities - including municipalities, counties, neighborhoods in large cities, and tribal communities - that protect and celebrate their heritage. Since the program began in 2003, more than 800 communities have been designated as Preserve America Communities from throughout the country. Participants come from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories.
A letter from First Lady Mrs. Michelle Obama notifies newly designated communities. When Santa Paula was named a Preserve America Community in August 2009 it was one of only two then in the state and only one of the 26 in the nation to be honored in 2009.
Chamberlain said, “Limoneira wanted to create an inclusive image piece that can be shown both to our citizens and to people regionally to showcase Santa Paula’s special-ness. We hope that people will enjoy the video.”
