Ventura Police made an arrest last week after a man walking in the downtown was allegedly robbed of prescription medication by an acquaintance, a resident of Santa Paula.

The incident occurred Thursday, October 18 when the victim, 53-year-old Bill Flores, a resident of Ventura, was walking in the 100 block of Oak Street at about 3:15 p.m. near Plaza Park. Flores was approached by an acquaintance, later identified as Armando Orozco, 38, of Santa Paula, who was riding a bicycle.

Ventura Police stated that, after having a brief conversation with Flores, Orozco produced a knife and pointed it at Flores. “Orozco threatened Flores with the knife and demanded he give him a bottle of medication,” which the Ventura Police stated Flores had in his possession.

Flores complied with Orozco’s demands and gave him the medication. Orozco fled from the area on his bicycle. Flores was not injured during the incident.

Ventura Police officers obtained information of Orozco’s possible whereabouts and went to the White Caps Motel in the 1600 block of Thompson Boulevard. Orozco was located in a room at the motel and taken into custody without further incident.

After he was positively identified by Flores, Orozco was arrested for armed robbery. The bottle of medication was recovered inside of the room.

Orozco was transported to the Ventura County Jail and booked for armed robbery and drugs charges as well as an outstanding warrant. He was being held in Ventura County jail in lieu of $95,000 bail.
