Blood drive for Sophia
December 14, 2011
Santa Paula News
United Blood Services will be doing a blood drive for Sophia on Sunday, December 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the CVS parking lot (600 W. Main St., Santa Paula).
On October 6, 2011, Sophia was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare form of pediatric cancer. Since then she has gone through three cycles of chemotherapy, as well as the numerous tests and transfusions that accompany the treatment.
In the last few weeks, Sophia has “regained her smile and laughter…. She is progressing well with the help of her excellent medical team led by Dr. Tran along with the nursing staff at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles and the hematology staff under Dr. Bracho at the Ventura Count Medical Center.”
Sophia is a fourth generation Santa Paulan, the daughter of Jim Andrade and Sandra (Pearson) Andrade. She is now 2 ½ years old.
Sophia loves the water and has enjoyed learning to swim at Daland Swim School. She has become “an avid fan of swings and slides from her time playing at My Gym. Her thirst for knowledge is satisfied with her retired educator grandparents, as she loves to play with markers with her grandmother. She knows her ABCs and numbers 1 to 20 and sight words such as ‘go’, ‘to’, ‘play’, ‘exit’, ‘cat’ and ‘dog.’ She loves to learn!”
Please join in the blood drive for this special little girl. For questions and information, please contact Gloria at 805-660-4664.
