A Santa Paula man will have to decide whether to take a million dollar home or just the cash after winning the grand prize in a unique raffle.

Richard Dominguez’s winning ticket in the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum 7th Annual Santa Barbara Million Dollar Home Raffle was pulled May 22 at Alameda Park.

Now Dominguez, an operating engineer, Local Union 12, and his wife, Linda, a Santa Paula area schoolteacher, have to decide whether to take the home or the $1 million cash prize. If the Dominguez family opts to take the house they’ll have a new three-bedroom, mission tiled-roof home that is a short walk to Santa Barbara’s restaurants, galleries, shops and theatres. Or they could take the money, $1 million before taxes.

The Dominguez’s ticket had to be the lucky one, out of 19,000 that were sold at $150 each. The drawing is only one of two in the state that each year sells out, and the full array of announced prizes are awarded.

“Congratulations to our newest million dollar winner, we’re very excited for you!” remarked Carolyn Glasoe, board president of CAF, who reached Dominguez by cell from the park right after she pulled his ticket.

Of the seven CAF raffles held, Dominguez’s is the fourth Tri-County grand prizewinner, with previous winners hailing from Carpinteria, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara. When asked if he would take the home or the $1 million in cash, Dominguez told a CAF representative: “For right now, I just want to enjoy the moment!”

Other top prize winners included Steve and Judy Wolf of Calabasas, who won the top Multi-Ticket prize: a new Toyota Prius or $20,000; Kimberly Beaven and Shari Schubot of Santa Barbara, who each won $10,000 in the Refer a Friend Drawing; Darrell and Lynda Bass of Santa Barbara who won $10,000 in the Main Draw; and Troy Meeker of Ventura who won $10,000 or a luxury Montecito Beach Home Vacation in the Multi Ticket drawing. More prizes given away included $5,000, several $1,000 prizes and Apple 32 GB iPads, as well as a penthouse stay at Ojai Valley Inn and Spa.

“We’re grateful to all who have purchased tickets in the home raffle,” said Miki Garcia, CAF’s executive director. “CAF is celebrating its 35th year, and the monies raised will allow us to continue educating, exhibiting and cultivating the arts of our time. Special thanks to all of our sponsors and partner Village Properties and their non-profit Teachers’ Fund.”

The Santa Barbara Million Dollar Home Raffle is one of only two home raffles in the State of California that gives away the advertised Grand Prize each year. Planning is underway for the 2012 raffle. To be included on the mailing list, please visit www.sbcaf.org or call (805) 966-5373.
